LOBSTERING Section of NEW ENGLAND
by The Dolphin's Eye Video
Lobstering represents more than just another fishery, it's a symbol of New England.
It represents an indepdent way of life that accepts the risks of being at sea and the acceptance
that your livlihood is uncertain...dependent on wind, tide, water temperature, lobster migration
patterns, market price and a hundred factors that may never be known. Yet this life has its
rewards...the rhythms of the rising sun and ocean wave....living close to nature...and being
part of a tradition that has rewards far beyond the dollars in your pocket at the end of the day.
The lobstering section of this video documents the day in the life of a Casco Bay lobsterman
from the time he sets out in his dinghy at sunrise through an actual day of lobstering. You'll be amazed at the beauty of working in the early morning sun, and at the pace of work as the captain and crew set and haul strings of traps, bait the traps, harvest the lobsters, repair the wooden traps, and use a wide range of skills to survive by this traditional method of fishing.
The guidebook enclosed with each video explains details of what you're viewing.
Observe the action and enjoy the lively Celtic tunes on the soundtrack as you begin to understand what a day on a lobster boat is really like.
