MAPLE SUGARING Section of NEW ENGLAND
by The Dolphin's Eye Video

approx 15 min of 1hr24min tape
The Maple Sugaring segment documents authentic sugarhouses, farmers, friends and family as they tap maple trees in the early spring, harvest the buckets of sap, start the fire in the evaporator and practice the alchemy of transforming sap into golden maple syrup.

The Maple Sugaring segment was shot over two sugaring seasons. Our goal was to create a work of art around a tradtional theme. You'll see the wonders of sap dripping like crazy on warm days and flowing so slowly on cold days (it sometimes takes three minutes for a single drop of sap to form). Family and friends help gather the sap. Each stage of traditional maple syrup production is preserved in a way that is both informative and magical. maple sap dripping into bucket

The sap drip image shown here is taken from the video, you will be amazed as the actual images transform a drop of sap into a lens and dissolve into pulses of sunlight as the heartbeat of the earth pumps the sap before your eyes. There are many finely crafted images that play with light and form that will surprise and delight you.

Steve Schuch's incredible violin piece "Entering Erdenheim" from his "Crossing The Waters" CD will take you into the night as the sugarmen work by lantern light to process the sap before dawn.

One letter we received:
"I recently viewed the video on PBS in Maine "New England" with lovely music and photography. I think it's the most beautiful piece I've ever watched!! My family has made maple syrup for at least 4 generations and I particularly enjoyed that section. Delightful!! and peaceful!! I'm wondering if it is possible to purchase copies of this? I certainly hope so!! Thanks-" (viewer from Maine)
